That's the longest headline I've ever written in 50 years. I'll explain it further on.

Meanwhile....as climate change takes hold and earth changes take effect, as disasters occur and unfold, there are too many reports of rising food prices, riots, disasters, and (in South Africa) brutal treatment of refugees for Earth Change Report to cover them all.

To be honest, this newsletter is my personal contribution to these changing times. Yet while I'm happy to express my opinions about all manner of things, my intention is that ECR should address some major problems and issues in a way which will benefit you specifically.

Without being melodramatic, my focus is on providing you with sufficient information to keep you aware of the fact that these changes are escalating and to provide you with resources that will help you get through to the other side.

For that reason, I am shortly (down the page) going to ask you for help. It's one thing for me to write what I want to write about. It's another to make sure I write what is really important to you.

But first - a quick look at some of the ways Nature is currently breaking the glass and pushing the button on the big red alarm bell.

As you can see in this NOAA image, ash has spread across South America from the Pacific far into the Atlantic as Chile’s Chaiten Volcano continues to erupt.

The following report is from ECR subscriber and correspondent Kristen in Buenos Aries.

"Suddenly the media is not saying anything about what’s going on down there. Yesterday all flights to and from Buenos Aries were cancelled again because of the ashes.

"The city of Chaiten is absolutely disappearing under the water the fire the mud. The volcano is in complete eruption. The Rio Blanco river that crosses the town has flooded 95 per cent of the houses.

"In Argentina which is also very affected they are opening schools in some areas for the children…but they have set up a lot of buses to get out of the provinces (closest to Chaiten).

"According to the news from the Argentine side they are living in absolute terror. It is a horror what they are going through down there.

"The media shuts up because people in Chile are literally in panic because they have lost absolutely everything. They don’t know what to do. Where do they put thousands on the Chilean side and tens of thousands on the Argentine side?

"The danger is very high…the volcano has not stopped erupting… (Fortunately) people are safe…a 92 year old lady died of a heart attack because of the stress, but everyone else is desperate but safe."

Footnote Saturday May 24: Kristen advised as this went to press that Chaiten has again started to erupt violently. Flights to and from Buenos Aries had again been canceled.

Chinese officials say nuclear facilities in the quake-hit province of Sichuan are all safe and secure.

Precautions have been taken against any outbreak of epidemic diseases after the Magnitude 8.0 earthquake.

With up to five million people now homeless, China is calling for three million tents as the most essential aid item.

There is also serious concern over 34 “quake lakes” that have backed up behind huge landslides. Fears of flooding caused the further evacuation of 9000 people in one area alone.

In Burma/Myanmar the ruling generals have apparently finally agreed to loosen their grip on distribution of incoming aid.

The Asia Times has an article about how the military rulers of Burma have spent decades isolating themselves from the world, and their own people, while the New York Times reports that "relief agencies in Bangkok said that they were finally breaking through a logjam created by Myanmar’s suspicious government and that a small but steady flow of aid had begun."

Considering that up to 170,000 people died when Cyclone Nargis hit two weeks ago, that aid may well be too little too late for many of the 2 million people waiting for help.

Kelley has a question I think many of us can relate to.

A: How much truth is there?

A lot.

Aside from Planet X (and being a jury of one, my jury is still contemplating that issue), the other earth change scenarios include

*The influence of the sun on our planet (electro-magnetic storms that cause all electrical equipment on earth to fail

*The possible (and abrupt) stalling of the Atlantic Current with a sudden Siberia-like climate descending on Europe;

*Even more devastating earthquakes in places other than China;

*The eruption of Super Volcanoes such as the Long Valley Caldera in California, Yellowstone, and perhaps even the Taupo caldera in New Zealand (volcanic winter descends – an ash haze lasts for years – crops fail – people starve and die).

*More Super storms such as Cyclone Nargis that has killed tens of thousands in Myanmar.

*Tsunamis created by either undersea volcanic eruptions or earthquakes, sending giant walls of water across thousands of miles of ocean to then eliminate entire coastal regions. (This has happened many times throughout history, and we are all aware of the Banda Aceh tsunami – a precursor of more to come).

*Droughts and floods and blizzards that decimate entire countries, their food production and agriculture in general – leading to famine and, again, starvation and death for many.

Yes indeed, it is “very frightening” as you say.

Being neither a prophet nor a guru, I can not say exactly how all this will play out. But having had to come to grips with this myself, I have come to a couple of conclusions.

*Nature is going to do her thing, as she always has. And the creatures who rely on this planet for physical life and sustenance, better get in tune with the current program.

Did your mother ever warn you not to do certain things again? I mean, something you got away with a couple of times, and then those eyes in the back of her head and her psychic reach to the back seat of the Holden or Chevy or BMW you were in resulted in a simple warning: “do that again, and you’re grounded.”

Not to put too mystical a point of view on it, it just seems to me like Mother Nature has given us plenty of warnings already, but now they’re getting louder.

*So what’s the answer to all this?

*We are.

In one way or another, every single person who subscribes to this newsletter (and that includes me) has first begun to see a bigger picture, got frightened at the sight and smell of smoke in the distance, realized a wild fire was on its way and after that first shudder of apprehension decided to do something about it.

Now please don't take this personally, but consider this. Even though governments are accused of cover-ups there is absolutely nothing to stop us as individuals from looking in the mirror, and saying “get over it.”

The worst of all cover ups actually occurs inside our own heads when we refuse to take responsibility for ourselves. By which I mean most people are waiting for someone or something – be it a religious figure, a government, or an alien space race - to save them.

Frankly, I think we are capable of more than that. As individuals, we can make choices that will save ourselves. And that is our responsibility.

If we stay in the land of fear, that too is by choice. But if we choose to decide we’ll be here when the changes are over, we’ll find solutions to our problems and make choices that ensure that very thing.

Of Frogs, Snakes and Earthquakes

We’ve received a couple of subscriber emails (thank you) about stories of frogs being active before the earthquake in China.

They’ve apparently also been on the hop near Bakersfield California this week. The suggestion is that such behavior indicates a pending earthquake.

Naturally, a lot of people scoff at such stories, but then again they’re the people who don’t expect any abrupt disasters in their lifetime. (Which means the only one they’ll ever experience is likely to be their first and last…like meeting a Cobra or a green anaconda).

But back to frogs and snakes.

It’s snakes that we should be taking notice of. Seriously.

According to the BBC, two years ago China surprised the world by setting up monitoring cameras at various snake farms. The snakes have been known to start behaving erratically as much as five days before an earthquake up to 50 miles away.

China also started a 10-satellite infra red monitoring program a decade ago, expecting to be able to forecast earthquakes more accurately.

The question is, if the snakes and the satellites did give them a warning that this earthquake was about to happen….could anyone possibly have warned and moved five million people?

Homeland Insecurity - The US versus Nature

Five hundred firefighters backed up by tanker planes and helicopters have yet to contain a fire that has burned several homes and forced the evacuation of 1700 people in the central part of the state.

And in Southern California downpours have caused mudslides in three Orange County canyons scarred by last fall's wildfires. The storms also unleashed an apparent tornado.

This has prompted one Earth Change Forum subscriber to wonder – could this happen in Washington state?

Seems that with the jet stream playing strange tricks, and high and low pressure areas shifting around, anything is possible…including a winter snow pack in the Washington Cascades that’s way higher than normal, melting far later than usual.

Already there is flooding in some areas as dams hold back the snow runoff – which means upstream hay fields and farmers are taking it on the chin.

RISING SEA LEVELS

The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona has come up with some extraordinary animated maps of global sea level rise under different scenarios.

They show what could happen to coastal regions from now till the water rises six meters. Is your place included?

Natural Bees Resist Disease

Maybe there’s a natural reason why some bees are disappearing.

They could have been bred and fed to extinction.

Michael Bush – a beekeeper of the natural and organic variety, believes breeding for size may have crossed a survival threshold and made hives more susceptible to disease.

We’re fortunate here at our place. There are plenty of native bees and bumble bees humming in our apple trees. (Should I rephrase that poetic phrase?).

Plus they’re doing a good job on the cauli, broccoli, brussel sprouts and kohlrabi that we are letting go to seed for future use.

Did you know that freezing seeds will keep a lot of them indefinitely. Good idea – so long as the freezer runs. For more info on that, just type “freezing seeds” (no quotes) into your search engine. I use Google mostly. You’ll find Nasturtiums don’t like it. Freezing that is.
