A World Awash - Flooding Affects Millions

Earth Change Report 012 - Oct 5 2007

World Flood Map

All this in the past eight weeks.

"Water - water - everywhere - and not a drop to drink."

So goes the refrain in an old song that has new implications for what is happening on our changing earth.

When floods happen, bad things happen. Water becomes undrinkable. Sewers rupture. Toxic chemicals find their way into the flood and things go from bad to worse.

Worse than that, the power of water is such that no man-made barrier can be expected to stand forever, especially if torrential rains and floods are accompanied by earthquakes.

With what can be expected in these times of climate change and global warming, with volcano and earthquake numbers on the rise every day, the outlook is not a pretty one.

Which means it is important to consider how well prepared we are for these events. Do we have potable water set aside - even as little as five gallons - in case the local delivery system is disrupted?

More - much more - would be sensible in the event of a "volcanic winter" - which occurs when volcanic ash fouls the atmosphere and pollutes all traditional catchment areas with dangerous ingredients such as sulfur and silica.

Benjamin Franklin recorded such an event in his time. Ash from an Iceland volcano affected the seasons in the United States so badly that winters lasted longer, and crop production was seriously impacted.

But it is water that is sending us a warning in recent weeks, as these reports clearly illustrate.

China: Worst Floods in 50 Years. 120 Million People Affected - As of 17 August (update), more than 120 million have been affected by floods since mid-June. An estimated five million people have been left homeless, with more than 1000 reported dead or missing.

India: Millions Displaced by Floods - As of 23 July, heavy rains and landslides have displaced more than eight million people since the start of this year's monsoon season in June.

Philippines: 8 dead in floods and landslides from Tropical depression Lekima. 2,000 displaced.

Vietnam: - Typhoon Lekima makes landfall in Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces on October 3. 2 dead. 400,000 evacuated ahead of the storm.

Mexico: floods and mudslides. Rivers 21 feet above usual levels. 30,000 displaced in Veracruz. Thousands evcuated in Pueble state.

Brazil: Five days of torrential rain flood 58 cities and towns in Rio Grande do Sul. 4 dead. 4,000 evacuated.

Algeria: Violent storms and flash floods kill 18. Houses collapsed. A number of towns and villages isolated. tens of hectares crops destroyed. Bridges destroyed.

Bangladesh: Second round of floods affects the country - As of 19 September, more than 1 million people have been evacuated or are stranded as major rivers have risen due to torrential rains over the country.

Ghana: More than 260,000 people affected by floods, access problems

Uganda: Thousands displaced by renewed flooding.

Ethiopia: 136,000 affected, 36,000 displaced by floods thus far.

Myanmar: Tens of thousands of people displaced by flooding

East Africa: Hundreds of Thousands Displaced in Uganda, Kenya and Sudan

Philippines: Typhoon Sepat affects hundreds of thousands.

The numbers speak for themselves. Further information here.

A Tsunami For Africa?

Knysna in South Africa

Brett writes:

"HI there Michael:

"I am situated in a small town called Knysna in South Africa on the south and east coast and despite it being coastal, we are protected by 2 large heads separated by an exiting estuary.

"I am very aware of the seriousness of being coastal. Our house is well away from it and I am looking to get further inland and higher too

"Just listened to the Ram's teaching on "the Days that are Here" again [Ramtha information available here ]and was wondering what your views are on certain things.

"I also saw a DVD presentation on Planet X and the Annunaki and another one called "Are you Ready". All very interesting and enlightening.

"I have been very willing and able to get ready for this and wanted to ask what you know is going to be happening in South Africa. Three mile high tidal waves?

"I really enjoy your site and the intention that you have with all the goings on. I have not seen "Contact has Begun." Is it just as pertinent to this issue as well?"

Knysna boat docks

"Hi Brett.

"First - Knysna - I have just spent a few minutes observing it from a great height. Not out of body though. Courtesy of Google Earth.

"There is a huge amount of ocean out there isn't there. And once it starts sloshing around, the people at Buffalo Bay are going to get a big surprise - followed a few seconds later by those in the very impressive marina development where every new house has its own dock.

"But what do I know about South Africa in terms of earth changes?

"It too will experience tsunamis, and eventually have quite a different climate.

"As far as tsunamis are concerned - well, they come and go. The trick is to be there after they leave.

"This is why some people are following the government lead and building reinforced concrete underground facilities with watertight doors stocked with fresh water, food supplies and essential 'post event' items.

"Is the DVD essential viewing? Well, it does include references to dead zones in the oceans, volcanoes, sun storms etc....it is the foundation from which my newsletter springs and it is certainly a useful item if you want to introduce 'new' people to these future expectations.

"In writing the script and structuring the DVD I did my best to stay level-headed and use scientific information that is publicly available about earth changes - while also hopefully alerting viewers to the fact that there is very little time left to prepare for any one of these potentials, let alone all of them happening in such a short space of time.

"Whether this email is useful or not - you're not alone, even if you sometimes feel like it."

"Hi Michael:

"Thanks very much for the response. It is really appreciated. I am very keen to get READY and just sharing things with other like minded people is very beneficial, so many thanks."

"You're very welcome Brett.

"Whether you buy the DVD or not is your call, but I can say that several people have bought more than one copy. One couple bought six more to give to friends."

See the Sea Power

SA Beach one pre-erosion
SA Beach post erosion
While we're in South Africa let's go to Cape Point and see what the sea is doing to the land.

A press release tells us Diaz Beach near Cape Point in South Africa has all but disappeared.

Scientists say "while it is quite natural for beach sand to go through cycles of accretion and loss long-term coastal residents in this area maintain that this is the most erosion they have seen for many years.

"Many ‘new’ rocks have appeared high up on Diaz Beach.

"Other beaches even further to the north have also suffered.

"Photo 1 shows Diaz Beach on 16 June 2006 with a fairly normal sand cover.

"Photo 2 was taken in August 2007 and there is no doubt that several thousand tons of beach sand had been removed.

"It would seem that the denuding of – for example – Diaz Beach, has been spread over several months."“
Alaska quake Now blink and move back a fraction of a second in geological time to Alaska in 1964.

Visualize what one wave – one wave of gigantic proportions - can do in minutes rather than months.

In seconds, with no warning – or a warning that comes when you are out of time – such waves have killed hundreds of thousands and destroyed millions of lives and homes. (Photo courtesy USGS/Cascades Volcano Observatory).

This is what US Geological Survey Scientists have to say:

"The Great Alaska Earthquake of March 28, 1964 generated the most destructive tsunami observed in Alaska and the west coast of the United States and Canada (so far - ed.).

"Tsunami waves accounted for 106 of the 115 fatalities associated with the earthquake (Lander, 1996).

"Damage to Alaska coastal communities was $80 million."
