Readers Ask About Survival

Michael Knight talks to James Gilliland fopr Contact Has Begun

In the DVD “Contact Has Begun – with James Gilliland” James (right) makes the point that we are in for some severe earth changes, and we need to prepare physically mentally and spiritually to survive these times.

Earth Change Report is designed to deliver information that is totally focused on what readers want to know in the changing times in which we live.

Its focus is on abrupt climate and earth changes rather than the gradual hypothesis that is keeping so many millions in the La La Land of denial and inertia.

That focus has scientific underpinnings – as for example in this NASA story: "Once considered incredible, the notion that climate can change rapidly is becoming respectable. In a 2003 report, Robert Gagosian cites 'rapidly advancing evidence [from, e.g., tree rings and ice cores] that Earth's climate has shifted abruptly and dramatically in the past.'"

Time for Subscriber Questions about Earth Changes

Q: Myself and my family currently live in the UK, but we are looking to relocate to France in the near future. What I would like you to discuss, if you’re able, is how we are supposed to prepare. I am not overly concerned about how to prepare Spiritually, but how to move to an area so that my children are protected. Our money is very very tight, so I believe options like buying a house on a mountain someplace isn't really a possibility, not just for us, but for other readers too.

A: It won’t be long before Europe is a frigid zone down to the foothills of the Pyrenees. This will happen when the great Atlantic Conveyor Belt – the current that carries warm water north from the tropics to Greenland – finally stalls. It will stall because melting Arctic ice is cooling the ocean and bringing the conveyor belt to a halt.

From NASA again: Because saltwater is denser and heavier than freshwater, this "freshening" of the North Atlantic would make the surface layers more buoyant. That's a problem because the surface water needs to sink to drive a primary ocean circulation pattern known as the 'Great Ocean Conveyor.' Sunken water flows south along the ocean floor toward the equator, while warm surface waters from tropical latitudes flow north to replace the water that sank, thus keeping the Conveyor slowly chugging along. An increase in freshwater could prevent this sinking of North Atlantic surface waters, slowing or stopping this circulation.

There is still time to prepare and move elsewhere. The Mediterranean region for example. But as high as possible. Coastal regions anywhere in the world are terrible danger zones from now on. The Med. climate will also be much colder. Start buying/storing warm clothes/footwear now.

As for the tight money situation – that too can be turned around. My experience is that it requires a change of mind and attitude. A very powerful exercise is to drift off to sleep visualizing the desired future instead of the past or present (undesirable) situation. Same on waking up – visualize the future you want as if it is here now….and before long, your world literally conforms to that concept.

But when the ‘miracles’ start happening, do not discount them or say “I can’t believe this.” That is a stupid response to the fact that you have personally created your own destiny. Give yourself kudos and credit for doing so. And keep doing it. Then teach your kids how to do it too.

Q: What types of gear can we expect to still function during the power outage. Hand-pull generators without electrical starts?, hand-crank flashlights? etc.

A: I am researching this and will do a complete article in a future edition. Meantime, wind-up toys are good. I bought a couple this week. One is a small LED flashlight and the other a weather channel radio with AM and FM as well.

Whether they’ll function when all electricity is down is an unknown to me at this time – but they’re certainly useful in any sort of emergency situation such as power outages which we usually have a couple of times every winter.

That’s why I recently bought a pull-start generator too. On line from Harbor Freight tools. A refurbished unit delivered by truck in about 10 days. It has a Subaru engine (quiet – and cheaper than Honda). It’s not the full-on light-your-whole-house-and-run-the-washing-machine model, but enough to keep the freezers from defrosting if we use it for a few minutes a day. Candles do the lighting thing. A wood stove provides heat and cooking. We also have a small gas stove from a pickup camper. Cost $10 at a yard sale.

Q: Also, this wind shear that jeanjean speaks of--yikes! Any way of preparing for this?"

A: Yes. Understand first that there is a certain wind velocity beyond which no human body can stay on its feet, let alone survive. Whatever speed it reaches after that, you’re dead.

As a news cameraman I once saw a woman flattened by flying plywood. On another occasion I was lifted off my feet while filming the rescue of crew members from a grounded freighter in Wellington Harbor (New Zealand).

While living in a concrete block house in a mining town - Karratha, Western Australia - a cyclone tore the roofs off surrounding houses and flooded thousands of square miles of desert. We were without power (read air conditioning in outside temps of over 126F) and food deliveries for at least a week. Fortunately we had a bath to put the little kids in to cool them down.

Mt SDt Helens 2006 still shows devastation A visit to Mt St Helens in Washington in 1988 revealed the stunning site of big trees lying like in-line corpses spread over the hills as far as the eye could see. That was caused by huge winds emanating from the 1980 volcanic eruption. It killed about 60 people – some of whom survived the initial blast because they were in canyons. But they then struggled for miles across that mess before their lungs were cut to shreds by silica in the ash-laden air. These pics taken in 2006 (c) Michael Knight
I have filmed planes turned upside down by the wind, and of course we’ve all seen what hurricane winds and tornadoes can do as in Katrina and Andrew and other storms in the United States alone.

But they happen all over the world. And now they are beginning to occur in places that have not known such weather in recorded history.

So wind shear during a solar event will only be more of the same…much more.

Without shelter, you’re in bad shape.

So shelter of any sort is the obvious answer.

Nature has some lessons to teach us here.

Animals and insects that survive such storms are usually those to whom shelter is a natural way of life. Rabbits and moles and ants never fear the weather, be it fire or wind or rain. (Floods and earthquakes are a different story of course).

In the Pacific Islands the locals have long experience of cyclones and storms. They build their houses as rather flimsy shelters out of coconut trees and leaves. But they also have pits and caves to go to when a storm strikes. Once the storm passes, they rebuild quickly and easily.

Opal miners in Australia live in underground houses carved out of rock. Outside temperatures can be over 100F – but they live in a cool environment.

Concrete dome houses have proven their worth in hurricanes, as have earth bermed houses as well.

Even conventional houses with a strong basement have saved a lot of lives.

So we humans have many options to consider.

One example will suffice at this time. It comes from the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) web site.

“The purpose of a safe room or a wind shelter is to provide a space where you and your family can seek refuge that provides a high level of protection. You can build a safe room in one of several places in your home.

• Your basement.

• Atop a concrete slab-on-grade foundation or garage floor.

• An interior room on the first floor.

Safe rooms built below ground level provide the greatest protection, but a safe room built in a first-floor interior room also can provide the necessary protection.

Below-ground safe rooms must be designed to avoid accumulating water during the heavy rains that often accompany severe windstorms.

• To protect its occupants, a safe room must be built to withstand high winds and flying debris, even if the rest of the residence is severely damaged or destroyed. Consider the following when building a safe room:

• The safe room must be adequately anchored to resist overturning and uplift.

• The walls, ceiling, and door of the shelter must withstand wind pressure and resist penetration by windborne objects and falling debris.

• The connections between all parts of the safe room must be strong enough to resist the wind.

• Sections of either interior or exterior residence walls that are used as walls of the safe room, must be separated from the structure of the residence so that damage to the residence will not cause damage to the safe room.

Note: Evaluate that in light of your own research and circumstances, and what you know or are learning about the broad array of changes that we must be aware of and prepare for.

There are many other options which will be included in an ebook that I am currently writing.
