EC Report - Nature On A Roll August 09, 2008 |
Greetings from Michael Knight, Editor, Earth Change Report
In this issue: * China Quakes * Hurricane Season Numbers Up * Light bulbs are Mercury in Retrograde * Online Report - The Fiction Faction Unlike those who write about problems as if they're insurmountable, I prefer to look for the silver lining – even in earth changes or a global depression – and, know what? - there always is one. In fact, even though it is getting more expensive by the day, if you have some spare cash they tell me (but of course I'm not advising you) that silver is a really good investment right now. This week I've also written a special report called "Verichip and The Fiction Faction". It's on my web site and it's about the world economy, those behind it, and how it is imploding - which is indeed a very good thing in the long run. This is an international newsletter, so let's do what Earth Change Report was established to do – take a look at the earth changes of the past week. In China's Sichuan province – scene of the May 12 earthquake that killed almost 70,000 and left five million homeless, another three people were killed and thousands of houses destroyed this week by a Magnitude 6.0 earthquake. At least 35 people were also injured. A 5.8 'quake a few days earlier injured over 200 people. In Indonesia thousands of residents raced outside as the first tremors of a 6.6 Magnitude earthquake struck Sumbawa Island in Indonesia, destroying 500 homes but injuring only five people. Another 800 homes were damaged.
The Aleutian islands off Alaska are experiencing hundreds of small earthquakes – and now the eruption of Kasatochi Volcano – a young one with no known history. Alaskans meanwhile are starting to see themselves on the front line of change in the face of rising energy prices and global warming. “Already windmills are popping up all over the bush, and an experimental hydropower turbine is going into the Yukon River at Eagle. One of the speakers at this weekend’s Renewable Energy Fair in Anchorage says that places like Alaska will be among the first to make the changes needed to face an era of great energy uncertainty.” In Washington state, moves are afoot to change development rules in order to reduce damage from polluted storm water draining into Puget Sound from cities like Seattle and Tacoma. The sound is one of the most polluted in the United States.
Meanwhile the city of Bremerton is into water conservation, but is also promoting the use of rainwater barrels – and even offering on-line plans for making one. Speaking of water – imagine a river with 400 million people living on its banks – and 400 corpses in their bathing and drinking water. “A coalition of gurus has issued an ultimatum to India’s fragile Government: purify the chronically polluted Ganges, the river revered by Hindus, or face protests and political ruin. “More than 400 million people live along the banks of the river and most do not have proper lavatories. Some stretches have a faecal bacterial count nearly 4,000 times the World Health Organization's bathing standard limit.” In Britain The water quality of Britain’s beaches is being jeopardized by thousands of unregulated overflow pipes that dump raw sewage into coastal waters and rivers. Back in the United States, "It's just a disaster waiting to happen...” - In California a patch of land in Ventura County's section of Los Padres National Forest where the ground recently heated up to 812 degrees F continues to puzzle firefighters and geologists after weeks of monitoring. Hark back to 1943 when a Mexican farmer saw smoke coming out of the middle of his cornfield. A week later it erupted into a volcano that within the next year was over 1,000 feet high, Hurricane Season numbers updated: AP Reports“Federal forecasters on Thursday upgraded their outlook for this Atlantic hurricane season to include two more named storms than previously predicted. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration projects an 85 percent probability of an above-normal season — up from 65 percent in May. In the Philippines two people are dead after Typhoon Julian [Kammuri] battered the Ilocos Region and nearby provinces in Luzon. The typhoon also caused a tornado that hit the town of Bolinao in Pangasinan Province, destroying several houses. “THE United Nations is scrambling emergency aid to more than 40,000 people displaced by floods in southern Sudan.” In Australia meanwhile drought is bedeviling the Murray Darling Basin with some lakes only one-fifth full – and fears that the river will disappear completely. If you think that's bad, consider this: "The UK should take active steps to prepare for dangerous climate change of perhaps 4C according to one of the government's chief scientific advisers. Professor Bob Watson is talking about an “ordered retreat” from some coastal areas as sea levels rise. "Speaking to the Guardian, Watson, who is a former science adviser to President Clinton and ex-chief scientist at the World Bank, said the UK should take a lead in research on carbon capture and storage (CCS). " (Note: Those credentials look good – but maybe this is all about pushing the money-making carbon credits issue, which really does nothing at all to solve the problems associated with pumping toxic gases into the atmosphere. - MK). Watson wants “coal-fired power plants that are currently being built to be modular and capable of having carbon capture retrofitted....” (see that? Go ahead and build coal fired power stations with today's polluting technology, let them offset their toxic output by trading 'carbon credits' – and then retrofit carbon capture technology - if it ever becomes available. Meantime, make headlines with claims of a 4C temperature rise so you can piggyback your real agenda on that issue - MK). Is anybody listening? "Fred Redwood finds out what separates a house on the beach (in Britain) from one further inland ... about £400,000. (Judging by this feature article, beach front property remains at a premium, despite forecasts that the beach front will be several miles inland in a few years from now. Is anybody listening?- MK) How much money does it take to screw in a compact fluorescent light bulb? About US$4.28 for the bulb and labor -- unless you break the bulb." "Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at a cost of about US$2,004.28,”....because she switched to those dinky expensive “energy saving” pigtail fluorescent light bulbs. Then she broke one and discovered they are a biohazard full of mercury vapor!!! Check this link and you'll throw out (dispose of) every pig tail bulb you've got (I did). If you're a subscriber and you have a web site you'd like to invite others to visit, drop me a line. Peter didn't ask me to do this, but we were corresponding and he mentioned his site, which he set up after retiring to Southern Turkey. He thinks that if his hit counter gets above zero in any given month, that's a good month. So let's blow his socks off and see what he has to say in his “View From The Terrace.”
CHEER UP - THERE'S A WAY OUT OF ALL THIS An newsletter like this can make you wonder “how will I survive if Nature really does go crazy?” Well, you can choose to ignore it – or “think and do.” That's why I wrote my eBook, “Earth Changes - Mind Matters” - because I had to come to grips with these things myself and I felt that I could help others do the same. Laying all the puzzle pieces out on paper (so to speak) made the view – and the choices - a lot clearer. So if you're looking for a proven way to really understand the range of earth changes that are upon us in the next few years, and you want to figure out how to effectively create your own personal destiny, all that is covered in my new eBook “Earth Changes- Mind Matters.” I'm quite shameless about plugging this book, because for an absolute fraction of what it would have cost you to learn from four truly great experts at the conference I covered and wrote about, this ebook brings you all the key points on how to create and experience what you really want. It also goes 'in depth' on earth changes, but without the fear factor – because although there are problems, there are also real solutions. And they're in your hands, (or mind actually) as you'll discover in this “e-pedia” as one testimonial puts it. Another says: “Read the ebook.... great work and very well done... lined all the ducks up rather than finding them one at a time...again, great work and many thanks for the kind thought that sent it..” - Evan, Canada. And this: “God - at an initial scan - this is an incredible work!”- Yvonne, South Africa So what's in it for you? Perhaps everything you need to know about “Earth Changes – Mind Matters.” Sincerely, Michael Knight.
